JOWHAR – The Somali National Army (SNA), particularly the 203rd Unit, 20th Battalion, 1st Company of the Gorgor Commandos, carried out a well-coordinated military operation in the Jawad Ari area of Lower Shabelle region. The operation specifically targeted Al-Shabaab militants operating in the area, aiming to neutralize threats to local civilians and the surrounding communities.
During the operation, SNA forces seized explosives and other equipment that Al-Shabaab had used to carry out attacks against Somali civilians. In addition, the army revealed several sites that served as Al-Shabaab strongholds and bomb-making facilities, which were previously considered difficult to access. The operation, meticulously planned and executed, demonstrated the Somali forces’ determination to counter the threat of terrorism in the region.
The operation was led by the Commander of the 203rd Unit, 20th Battalion, 1st Company of the Gorgor Commandos, Sayidnuur Dahir (Afgub), along with the Deputy Commander, Xasan Axmed Gaabow (Xasan Yare). Both officials directly oversaw the operation to ensure it achieved significant results. Military leaders emphasized that the operation was a key part of the broader SNA strategy to strengthen security and stability across Lower Shabelle.
Lower Shabelle has seen intense and continuous military operations in recent months, with significant blows delivered to Al-Shabaab. These latest efforts have inflicted serious losses on the group, boosting public confidence in the army’s ability to protect civilians and counter terrorism.
The operation is also part of ongoing efforts by the federal government and security forces to reduce the threat of Al-Shabaab and maintain public safety. Army officials encouraged local communities to support the fight against insurgents by reporting suspicious activity, helping authorities maintain peace and security.
SNA forces also called for continued support for planned operations, highlighting the importance of collaboration between civilians and the military in tackling the threat of Al-Shabaab. Additional operations are expected in other areas of Lower Shabelle to further enhance security and reduce the militant group’s capacity to harm civilians.
This recent operation in Jawad Ari reaffirms the Somali National Army’s strong commitment to protecting citizens, stabilizing the region, and ensuring that communities can live free from the threats posed by terrorist groups. By targeting Al-Shabaab’s infrastructure and operational capabilities, SNA continues to demonstrate its determination to restore peace and security to the people of Lower Shabelle.
