Somali Forces Kill Two Senior Al-Shabaab Leaders in Ongoing Basra Operations

Mogadishu – August 31, 2026: Somali Armed Forces continue large-scale military operations targeting Al-Shabaab militants in the outskirts of the Basra area, located along the border between Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle regions.

The ongoing operations have resulted in the deaths of several militants, including two senior Al-Shabaab leaders, while weapons were also seized from the group.

The Armed Forces continue to track remaining militants and conduct operations in surrounding areas to clear the region of security threats and protect local communities. Official figures and final results are expected to be announced once the operation is completed.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense praised the courage and sacrifices of the Somali Armed Forces, reaffirming the government’s commitment to intensifying military operations against terrorist threats and strengthening security and stability across the country.
