Somalia and Qatar Ministers Meet to Strengthen Cooperation on Family and Social Affairs
In a significant step toward advancing regional collaboration on family welfare and social development, Somalia’s Minister of Family Affairs and Human Rights, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, held a productive meeting with Buthaina Bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Qatar’s Minister of Family Affairs. The meeting, held in Doha, underscored the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen cooperation in areas that directly impact the wellbeing of families, women, and children.
According to an official statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Family Affairs and Human Rights, the discussion centered on joint initiatives to promote family stability, child protection, and women’s empowerment. Both ministers explored strategic areas where the two ministries could collaborate, particularly in the exchange of expertise, policy development, and capacity building for social workers and family institutions.
Minister Al-Makhzoumi provided an overview of Somalia’s recent progress in social and human rights programs, noting that the Ministry has made considerable strides in addressing family-related challenges and promoting gender equality. She highlighted that Somalia’s experiences in post-conflict community rebuilding could provide valuable insights into strengthening family resilience and youth participation in social development.
On her part, Minister Al Nuaimi shared Qatar’s achievements in advancing family affairs, especially its successful models in community development, early childhood education, and social service delivery. She emphasized Qatar’s willingness to work closely with Somalia to support sustainable initiatives that empower women and protect vulnerable populations.
Both sides agreed to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at institutionalizing cooperation between the two ministries. The agreement is expected to enhance bilateral relations by promoting knowledge sharing, joint training programs, and coordinated efforts on policy implementation that address family welfare and gender equity.
Minister Al-Makhzoumi expressed her deep appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended by her Qatari counterpart. She also commended the efforts of Qatar’s government in promoting social inclusion and reiterated Somalia’s commitment to working hand in hand to achieve mutual goals.
“The friendship between Somalia and Qatar continues to grow stronger,” Minister Al-Makhzoumi stated. “Through our partnership, we aim to create impactful programs that improve the lives of women, children, and families across both nations.”
The meeting marks another milestone in Somalia’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with the Gulf region, reflecting a broader vision of cooperation on social development, human rights, and gender equality. As both countries face evolving social and economic challenges, the dialogue represents a step toward sustainable solutions driven by collaboration, compassion, and shared values.
This partnership is expected to open new avenues for capacity-building, policy innovation, and regional solidarity in addressing family and social affairs. With continued dialogue and commitment, Somalia and Qatar are poised to become stronger allies in advancing social welfare and empowering communities for a better future.
