Somalia’s Minister of Transport Meets Saudi Counterpart to Strengthen Aviation and Transport Cooperation
Riyadh – Somalia’s Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Farah Nur, who is on an official working visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held a productive meeting in Riyadh today with the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser.
The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of public transportation, civil aviation, and logistics, with both sides emphasizing the importance of accelerating efforts to deepen economic and people-to-people ties between the two brotherly nations.
A key point of discussion was the establishment of regular direct flights connecting cities in Somalia and Saudi Arabia — a move that would significantly boost trade, tourism, and the movement of citizens between the two countries.
Minister Mohamed Farah Nur described the meeting as strategic and result-oriented, highlighting its significance in building a long-term partnership grounded in mutual understanding, shared interests, and sustainable development.
“I am pleased to have discussed with my Saudi counterpart the ways to strengthen cooperation in aviation and public transport. Somalia and Saudi Arabia share historic brotherly relations, and I am confident that this meeting will lead to tangible outcomes,” said Minister Mohamed Farah Nur.
For his part, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, praised Somalia’s ongoing efforts to improve its transportation and public service infrastructure. He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s readiness to support Somalia in developing aviation facilities, logistics systems, and technical training for Somali professionals working in the transport and aviation sectors.
Both ministers agreed to establish a joint technical committee to begin drafting new agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in areas such as knowledge exchange, technical assistance, and investment in aviation and transport infrastructure projects.
The visit by Somalia’s Minister and his delegation is part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s broader initiative to strengthen international partnerships — particularly with Islamic nations that share a mutual interest in Somalia’s progress, stability, and prosperity.
This meeting marks a significant milestone in the growing relationship between Somalia and Saudi Arabia and is expected to pave the way for greater connectivity, economic integration, and collaboration across multiple sectors, especially transport and civil aviation.
