Somalia PM Hamza Calls for Cooperation at MEDays Summit in Morocco

TANGIER, Morocco – November 30, 2025 — Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, delivered a powerful message of solidarity and cooperation during the closing session of the MEDays International Forum, urging Global South nations to strengthen alliances and pursue shared development goals.

Addressing regional leaders, policymakers, and international partners, Prime Minister Hamza described Somalia as a country “writing a new historical chapter,” noting that the nation is reclaiming its place on the global stage. He emphasized that Somalia is experiencing renewed political stability and improved security, supported by ongoing institutional reforms and reconstruction efforts across government sectors.

The Prime Minister highlighted Somalia’s readiness to contribute meaningfully to global discussions, stressing that the country seeks cooperation rather than charity. “We have not come here seeking aid,” he said. “We have come seeking partnership — ready to share ideas, engage in dialogue, and be part of the solution to global challenges.”

Hamza noted that Somalia’s reforms have laid a strong foundation for economic recovery, improved governance, and strengthened state institutions. He pointed to progress in debt relief, digital governance, and security sector restructuring as examples of how Somalia is transitioning toward long-term stability and sustainable development.

During his remarks, the Prime Minister also spoke about Africa’s evolving role on the global stage. He argued that Africa must no longer remain a passive observer in international decision-making but should instead take an active part in shaping policies that affect its future. “Africa has the talent, the resources, and the strategic importance to influence global affairs,” he said. “Our responsibility is to speak with one voice and ensure our interests are represented.”

The MEDays forum — a four-day gathering bringing together leaders, diplomats, investors, and experts from around the world — concluded with Somalia playing a particularly prominent role. The delegation held several high-level meetings aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties, enhancing economic cooperation, and securing support for national development priorities.

Somalia’s participation at the summit was widely viewed as a significant step in expanding the country’s international partnerships, especially with nations across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Observers noted that the engagements made during the conference could support Somalia’s short-term stabilization efforts and long-term aspirations for regional leadership.

The Prime Minister’s message of collaboration, unity, and shared responsibility resonated across the forum, reinforcing Somalia’s commitment to peace, integration, and constructive global engagement.

As the MEDays summit came to an end, Somalia’s delegation returned home with renewed momentum, strengthened alliances, and a clear vision of how international cooperation can support the country’s historic transformation.
