Massive Protest Against Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland Held in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU – A large-scale protest took place today in Mogadishu, opposing Israel’s recent decision to recognize Somaliland as an independent state. The demonstration was held at the Daljirka Daahsoon Monument and organized jointly by various religious leaders and officials from the Federal Government of Somalia.

Hundreds of participants, including youth, elders, and women, attended the protest, carrying Somali flags and banners denouncing Israel’s recognition of Somaliland. Protesters expressed their strong rejection of what they described as a violation of Somalia’s territorial integrity and national unity, calling on the international community to support Somalia and respect its borders and sovereignty.

The Federal Government of Somalia had previously issued a firm rejection of Israel’s decision, weeks before the announcement. Israel declared Somaliland as an independent state separated from the rest of Somalia. This decision sparked diplomatic tensions and international reactions, with Somalia’s allies and the wider global community condemning the move as contrary to international law and harmful to Somalia’s territorial integrity and unity.

Speakers at the protest, including government officials and religious leaders, urged citizens and leaders to unite in defense of Somalia’s land and sovereignty. They warned that unilateral decisions like Israel’s could destabilize the region and called for strengthened diplomatic engagement and international dialogue to resolve the matter peacefully.

Today’s demonstration in Mogadishu highlighted the strong sense of national unity among Somali citizens and their opposition to any measures that undermine their territorial integrity. It also serves to raise international awareness about the importance of respecting national borders and sovereignty.

Israel’s recognition of Somaliland has triggered political and diplomatic responses both domestically and internationally. Urgent meetings and diplomatic calls are underway to address the tensions, while Somalia insists it will not accept any move that threatens its territorial unity. International organizations have also called for dialogue and peaceful solutions to prevent the situation from escalating.

The Mogadishu protest sent a clear message that the Somali people stand firmly behind their Federal Government and are committed to defending the country’s unity and sovereignty. The peaceful demonstration also reflects a growing awareness among citizens of the need to protect national borders and territorial integrity while promoting dialogue and legal solutions consistent with international norms.

Somalis attending the protest emphasized that national unity and territorial sovereignty remain their top priorities. By participating in peaceful demonstrations and voicing their collective opinion, they have reinforced their determination to defend Somalia’s land, sovereignty, and rights against any external interference.

Today’s events in Mogadishu demonstrate the people’s unwavering support for their nation, highlighting the critical role of civic engagement in safeguarding Somalia’s territorial and political integrity in the face of international decisions that threaten it.
