Puntland President Holds Key Meeting with International Community in Nairobi




Nairobi, Kenya – January 23, 2026

The President of Puntland, H.E. Said Abdullahi Deni, convened a high-level meeting today in Nairobi with representatives of the international community, including ambassadors from the United Nations, European Union, United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Germany, Sweden, as well as senior diplomats from the United States, Switzerland, Finland, France, Netherlands, and officials from the World Bank.

The meeting aimed to discuss the overall political, security, and humanitarian situation in Somalia, with a particular focus on Puntland. During the discussions, President Deni outlined the regional government's ongoing efforts to strengthen security, combat terrorism, and consolidate democratic institutions across the region. The international representatives commended Puntland’s progress, particularly its initiatives against extremist groups such as ISIS, as well as its efforts to maintain stability in key districts and urban centers.

Security and political stability were at the forefront of the dialogue. The international community emphasized the importance of Puntland’s continued leadership in promoting peace and preventing the spread of insurgent activity in the region. They also expressed their support for Puntland’s efforts to establish transparent and accountable governance structures, highlighting the role of democratic institutions in fostering long-term stability.

In addition to security matters, the meeting also addressed humanitarian concerns and the need for stronger cooperation in development initiatives. Accompanying President Deni were key members of his administration, including Minister of Interior, H.E. Abdi Farah Juxa, Special Envoy for Political and International Relations, H.E. Mohamed Abdirahman Dhabancad, Director-General of the Presidency, H.E. Mohamed Jama Abdirahman, and Presidential Spokesperson and Director of Information, H.E. Jama Yusuf Dabaraani. Their presence ensured detailed briefings on Puntland’s policies and facilitated technical discussions with the visiting diplomats.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue strengthening the partnership between Puntland and the international community. Both sides emphasized that sustained dialogue, cooperation, and strategic support are essential for advancing stability, promoting development, and enhancing humanitarian efforts across Somalia.
