Somalia and UNDP Strengthen Strategic Partnership to Advance Development and Stability
As part of strengthening international cooperation and supporting Somalia’s development agenda, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Hamza Hadow, held talks with the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Disaster Risk Reduction Unit at the UN Development Programme, Ms. Shoko Noda, on ways to enhance strategic partnership aligned with Somalia’s national priorities.
The meeting focused on key areas of coordination, including sustainable development, electoral processes, humanitarian response, and efforts to address the ongoing drought and displacement crisis affecting parts of the country.
Both sides emphasized the importance of accelerating government-led initiatives in partnership with international stakeholders to support vulnerable communities and strengthen national resilience against growing climatic, humanitarian, and economic challenges.
For her part, the UN official commended Somalia’s increasing role on the international stage, particularly within the UN Security Council, as well as its accession to the East African Community, describing these steps as significant milestones toward regional integration and stability.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the UN’s commitment to continue supporting Somalia’s peacebuilding and development efforts and expanding cooperation to achieve tangible results on the ground.
