Somalia and the United Kingdom Discuss Strengthening Human Rights Cooperation in Geneva



The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development in the Federal Government of Somalia, Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, held a meeting in Geneva with the UK Ambassador for Human Rights, Eleanor Sanders, to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation between Somalia and the United Kingdom in the field of human rights, and to support national efforts aimed at further advancing this sector.
During the meeting, the British Ambassador, Eleanor Sanders, praised the progress made by Somalia’s Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development, particularly in strengthening and protecting the human rights system. She also commended the Federal Government’s achievements in establishing the National Independent Human Rights Commission, as well as the agreement signed between the Ministry and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, describing it as an important step toward strengthening institutional cooperation in this field.
For her part, Minister Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi expressed appreciation for the support provided by the United Kingdom to the Somali government and people, emphasizing the importance of continued partnership and coordination between the two sides, particularly in issues related to the protection and promotion of human rights, in a way that contributes to stability and development in Somalia.
