Somalia: Educational Achievements and Nationwide Celebrations Mark the End of National Examinations

Somalia has witnessed notable progress in its education sector this year, as national examinations reportedly reached more geographically remote areas than in previous years. This development reflects improved logistical support and increased government efforts to strengthen the education system.
Officials confirmed that the government provided logistical assistance that enabled thousands of students to sit for their exams under suitable conditions. This support has helped promote equal access to education across different regions of the country despite ongoing geographical and security challenges.
In a related development, the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Abdifatah Qasim, announced that the names and photos of top-performing students in this year’s national examinations will be broadcast on Somali National Television for three consecutive days. The initiative aims to encourage academic excellence and motivate students to achieve higher results.
Following the completion of the examinations, thousands of students gathered in Mogadishu at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Square to celebrate the end of their secondary education. The celebrations were marked by the waving of national flags and the chanting of traditional songs expressing pride and joy over this academic milestone.
Military bands from the armed forces, police, and prison services participated in the festivities, contributing to a vibrant national atmosphere. Security agencies also played a key role in ensuring the events proceeded smoothly and safely.
The celebrations coincided with Somalia’s preparations to mark the 66th anniversary of independence and unity, adding a strong national dimension to the occasion. As the festivities conclude, thousands of students are now preparing to transition to university education, reflecting continued progress in the country’s educational development.
