Somalia and China Strengthen Bilateral Partnership and Development Cooperation


Mogadishu – August 18, 2026

Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Ali, received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia, H.E. Wang Yu, at the ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu.

The meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between Somalia and China, with both sides emphasizing the importance of advancing the partnership in areas that serve the mutual interests of the two countries and their peoples.

Minister Abdisalam expressed his deep appreciation for China’s continued support to Somalia, particularly its contributions to development and education projects. He highlighted China’s support for the construction of the Diaspora Center under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an important example of this cooperation.

The minister reaffirmed the Somali government’s commitment to further strengthening and developing its strategic partnership with China across various sectors.

The meeting reflects the growing cooperation between Mogadishu and Beijing and their shared interest in expanding development, educational and strategic partnerships to support Somalia’s progress and long-term development.
