Somalia and UNDP Sign MoU to Strengthen Development Cooperation

Mogadishu – August 12, 2026

The Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening development cooperation and supporting Somalia’s national development priorities.

The agreement followed the presentation of credentials by Christopher Politis, the new UNDP Representative to Somalia, to Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Ali.

Following the ceremony, Politis met with the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Hamza Adam Hado, where they signed the Memorandum of Understanding establishing a framework for enhanced cooperation in key development areas.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening development partnerships and welcomed the continued support of UNDP in building Somalia’s state institutions and advancing sustainable development.

The agreement marks another step toward expanding cooperation between Somalia and UNDP, with a focus on strengthening national institutions and supporting sustainable development efforts across the country.
